How to Choose Glasses That Actually Fit Your Face Shape

· 7 min read · Face Shape Detector Team

Opticians fit frames with one heuristic above all others: contrast. Frames should counter your face’s dominant lines, not repeat them. Round face, angular frames. Angular face, rounded frames.

The second rule is width: the frame front should match your cheekbone width. Frames wider than the face add visual weight at the temples; narrower frames pinch and make the face look wider by comparison.

By shape: round faces suit rectangles, browlines, and angular cat-eyes. Square faces suit round, oval, and rimless styles. Hearts balance with bottom-heavy or rimless frames. Diamonds shine in browline and cat-eye frames. Long faces need tall lenses and oversized styles, and triangles want top-heavy, decorated frames that pull attention upward.

Ovals get the usual free pass: nearly any geometry works, so optimize fit — frame width, bridge fit, and temple length — over shape.
